We have created the Business Courts Blog to cover the past, present and future of business and commercial courts. Our focus is the United States generally, though we will include items on international courts from time to time. A good overview of the history and development of modern business and commercial courts is set out in these 2004 and 2011 articles.
As Philadelphia lawyers, we will have a special focus on Philadelphia’s Commerce Case Management Program (the “Commerce Court”), and will post significant opinion summaries and important Commerce Court developments. This 2009 article provides a history of the Commerce Court, which entered its 20th year in January 2019. Fineman, Krekstein & Harris lawyers have been practicing in the Commerce Court since its inception.
Firm Partner Lee Applebaum (lapplebaum@finemanlawfirm.com) oversees this blog. He co-authored or authored the articles linked above, and is one of the few attorneys to be made an Honorary Charter Member of the American College of Business Court Judges. He is past co-chair of the American Bar Association Section of Business Law’s Business Courts Subcommittee and later its Judges Initiative Committee. He is past Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Business Law Section, and chaired its Business Litigation Committee for two years. From 2006-2010 he managed the Commerce Court Opinion Project.
We invite you to explore the Business Courts Blog and to subscribe to keep up with new developments.
