Georgia’s Statewide Business Court Opens

In November 2018, Georgia’s voters approved a constitutional amendment to create a statewide business court.  In 2019, legislation was passed implementing the business court, and Judge Walter Davis was confirmed as the first (and as of yet only), Statewide Business Court judge.  The Statewide Business Court has now become operational, accepting its first filings.

It is interesting to remember that a key impetus for creating business courts in Georgia started in North Carolina’s Business Court in 2001, with the Wachovia-Suntrust Litigation and Georgia attorney Raymond Fortin’s bringing the idea for a business court back to Georgia.  You can find some of that history in this 2004 Business Lawyer article.
