Judicial Changes in North Carolina’s Business Court

In May, widely respected North Carolina Business Court Judge James Gale began the process of stepping down from the 25 year old business court.  Judge Gale’s place on that Bench is being assumed by Judge Julianna Earp, the first woman to serve on the North Carolina Business Court.

Having personally known Judge Gale for many years, I can attest that his intelligence, humility, thoughtfulness, energy and inquisitive nature combine into an extraordinary person.

As reported by Elon University, with which Judge Gale has been closely affiliated, “With chambers adjacent to Elon Law, [Judge] Gale has authored more than 200 opinions in cases argued before him since joining the court in 2011. He served as Chief Judge for three years, and in 2016 was named Senior Business Court Judge, a position created by the North Carolina General Assembly.”

“Though [Judge] Gale officially concludes his service to the North Carolina Business Court at the end of September, he may continue to preside over a small number of complex cases as an emergency judge with an office maintained at Elon Law.”

We welcome Judge Earp into the Business Courts community.
